Owners Ben and Tanja share a long-standing passion for Nordic sauna culture and the simple rituals of heat, cold water, and good company. What began as a small wood-fired sauna built inside a repurposed horse float has grown into a much-loved wellness experience for locals and visitors alike. After starting on the shores of Cleeland Bight Beach in Cape Woolamai, the couple have now created a new home for the sauna near the Cowes Jetty.
The original sauna helped introduce many people on Phillip Island to authentic sauna culture, but the new sauna at Cowes has been purpose-built for the location. Constructed using locally sourced materials and with the help of local trades, the new build reflects the couple’s commitment to community, sustainability, and creating something that truly belongs on the foreshore.
Heated the traditional way with a wood fire, the sauna is designed for small groups to share. Sessions are social, relaxed, and welcoming, whether you come with friends or meet new people on the bench. The focus is not just on heat, but on community, conversation, and the feeling of being present, with the ocean only steps away for the full hot-cold experience.
Ben and Tanja have deep roots in the Phillip Island community, having previously run local restaurants before turning their focus toward wellness, mental health, and the benefits of sauna culture. Their approach blends creativity, sustainability, and a strong belief that simple experiences — heat, cold, and connection — can have a powerful impact on wellbeing.
